I’m originally from the mountains of North Carolina. I literally grew up on the ski slopes of Sugar Mountain where my dad was the ski school director and my mom was a ski instructor. I moved to Myrtle Beach in 1987 at 12 years old where I continued my active childhood. I picked up surfing, skating, hunting, fishing and basically spending as much of my free time outdoors as I could.
After high school, I moved to Portland, Oregon to attend culinary school. After graduating, I moved to Oahu, Hawaii and worked in some of Hawaii’s best restaurants. Hawaii, having a year-round tropical climate, allowed me to continue my outdoor lifestyle, enjoying surfing, diving, kite surfing, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, etc. After 10 years there my wife and I started our family and we moved back to Myrtle Beach.
Growing up, I had always heard that when you hit 40, your body starts heading downhill. Sure enough, at 39 my metabolism slowed down and I started to gain weight. I thought there had to be a way to fight this “downhill” slide. I had a few friends that had started doing CrossFit and they all said that it had changed their lives. So in 2013, I started CrossFit and within a year I could comfortably say that at 40 I was in the best shape of my life! Since then, I’ve got my L-1 training certification and have found that I truly enjoy coaching and helping people achieve their fitness goals, whether they need help with their form, nutritional goals, or just some motivation and encouragement when they need it.
